Remove a domain when you no longer need TrekMail to handle its mail. Deleting a domain also affects associated mailboxes and routing.
Before you remove a domain
- Confirm that no active mailboxes still need the address. Export any important mail first.
- Update DNS to point MX records to your new provider if you still plan to receive mail elsewhere.
Remove the domain
- Go to Domains and open the domain you want to remove.
- Click Remove domain and confirm the prompt.
- TrekMail deletes domain-specific settings and disables mail routing immediately.
What happens to mailboxes
- Mailboxes tied to the domain are removed with the domain and can no longer receive or sign in.
- Historical stats remain accessible at the account level but stop updating for the deleted domain.
Quick fixes and troubleshooting
- If the delete button is disabled, ensure you are an account owner or admin with permission to manage domains.
- Remove forwarding rules on external services before deletion to prevent mail loops.
- If you deleted the domain by mistake, re-add it and reapply DNS records; the system treats it as a new domain.
