Apple Mail is one of the guided choices in TrekMail's Apps & devices screen. The recommended method is a small Apple configuration profile that adds the incoming and outgoing account settings together. Manual setup remains available if your organization does not allow profiles.
Before you start
- Have the full mailbox address ready, such as
hello@example.com. - Use the password for this mailbox, not your TrekMail dashboard password.
- Open Apps & devices and confirm that sending is ready. Apple Mail may reject the account when receiving works but outgoing mail has not been configured.
- If the address already exists in Apple Mail as a failed account, remove only that account or its TrekMail profile before retrying. Do not delete unrelated Keychain entries or other accounts.
You can find Apps & devices in either place:
- In the TrekMail dashboard, open Mailboxes, select the mailbox, then choose Apps & devices.
- In webmail, click the settings gear and choose Apps & devices, directly above Connected accounts.
Recommended: install the Apple configuration
On the Apple device you want to connect:
- Open Apps & devices and choose Apple Mail.
- Select Download configuration. A
.mobileconfigfile downloads. - On a Mac, open System Settings → General → Device Management. On an iPhone or iPad, open Settings → General → VPN & Device Management.
- Open the downloaded TrekMail profile, review it, and approve Install.
- Enter the mailbox password when Apple Mail asks. The same password is used for incoming and outgoing mail.
- Open Mail and allow a moment for the first folder sync.
The profile contains the mailbox address and secure server settings. It never contains or downloads the mailbox password.
Manual setup
If profiles are blocked by your administrator, choose Show manual server settings in Apps & devices. In Apple Mail, add an Other Mail Account and use these values:
| Setting | Incoming (IMAP) | Outgoing (SMTP) |
|---|---|---|
| Server | Copy the incoming host from Apps & devices | Copy the outgoing host from Apps & devices |
| Port | 993 |
465 |
| Security | SSL/TLS | SSL/TLS |
| Authentication | Password | Password |
| Username | Full mailbox address | Full mailbox address |
| Password | Mailbox password | Same mailbox password |
Port 587 with STARTTLS is also available when an Apple-managed network blocks port 465.
The usual platform hosts are imap.trekmail.net and smtp.trekmail.net. A verified White Label setup can show branded hosts instead. If your domain routes mail through a custom SMTP provider, still use the outgoing host shown by TrekMail. Provider credentials do not belong in Apple Mail.
If receiving or sending does not work
- In Apple Mail, open Mail → Settings → Accounts, select the TrekMail account, and confirm it is enabled.
- Open Server Settings. Check that both usernames are the complete mailbox address.
- Confirm the outgoing account assigned to this mailbox matches the outgoing host in Apps & devices. A server saved in the list but assigned to a different account will not send for this mailbox.
- If you entered the account manually, turn off Automatically manage connection settings and recheck ports
993and465. - On a Mac, open Window → Connection Doctor. It tests incoming and outgoing connections separately, so you can see which side failed.
Do not repeatedly clear Keychain. To remove an installed TrekMail profile cleanly, open System Settings → General → Device Management and remove that profile. This removes only the account created by the profile.
