You can change a mail plan when your subscription is active and its billing state allows the change. The Plans page shows the available choices and the effective date before you confirm.

[!NOTE] If your current paid subscription came from ClickBank or JVZoo, TrekMail does not change that marketplace subscription in place. The change flow moves future recurring billing to TrekMail-managed Stripe and confirms the new card payment before it finalizes the marketplace rebill cancellation.

How to change plans

  1. Go to Plans in the dashboard.
  2. Review the cards. Use the Monthly/Yearly toggle to see pricing options.
  3. Click Upgrade or Downgrade on the card you want.
  4. Review the effective date and payment summary, then confirm the change.

If you are currently billed through ClickBank or JVZoo, the checkout flow will switch you onto TrekMail card billing as part of the change.

Review the complete amount, including any adjustment, discount, currency conversion, and tax shown in checkout. Automatic tax appears only when Stripe Automatic Tax and the required registrations and customer location details are configured; locally saved tax fields do not turn it on.

Upgrading

When upgrading to a higher plan, such as Starter to Pro, the Plans page can offer two timings:

  • Switch now: The upgrade takes effect immediately. Any adjustment is calculated by billing and shown in the confirmation step before you approve it. The higher limits are then available straight away.
  • Switch at renewal: The upgrade is scheduled for the next billing cycle. Your existing plan remains in place until then.

[!NOTE] Saved card: If a saved card is available, checkout can offer it for confirmation. Your bank may still ask you to complete an authentication step.

[!TIP] Promo codes: Enter a code in the checkout form and confirm the resulting total. A code already redeemed by the account cannot be used again.

Downgrading (Scheduled)

Downgrades to a lower paid plan, such as Agency to Pro, are scheduled for the end of the current billing period.

  • Timing: You keep your current higher plan features and limits until the billing period ends.
  • No refunds for unused time: Except where applicable law or the checkout terms require otherwise, monthly and annual fees are non-refundable and non-creditable because the plan remains active until the end of the cycle.
  • At the period end: The plan changes to the lower tier on the date shown in Billing. The next charge, if any, uses the lower plan (or nothing when changing to Nano).
  • Before you confirm: Check your storage, domains, mailboxes, and enabled features against the lower plan. This gives you time to export, clean up, or adjust the setup while the higher limits are still active.

Restoring a Canceled Subscription

If you have canceled your subscription (set to cancel at period end) but change your mind before the paid period runs out, you can restore it:

  1. Go to the Billing tab.
  2. Look for the "Resume subscription" or "Keep subscription" option.
  3. Confirm the action.
  4. Your subscription will resume normal renewal with no interruption in service.

[!NOTE] You must resume before changing plans. If your subscription is canceled but still active (grace period), you must resume it first before upgrading or downgrading. The dashboard will prompt you to do this.

Downgrading to Nano

Nano has a 5 GB pooled storage allowance, up to 10 domains, and up to 10 mailboxes per domain. It does not include TrekMail managed SMTP. If you stay on Nano, configure your own SMTP provider before you need to send mail.

Before a Nano downgrade takes effect, check these items:

  • Storage: Email and Drive files share the same pool. Reduce usage or keep an appropriate storage add-on if the new allowance would not cover your data.
  • Features: External catch-all routing and mailbox forwarding require a paid mail plan. The dashboard shows settings that are unavailable on Nano, so review any business-critical routing before the change date.
  • Mailboxes and domains: When an account is above a new plan limit, TrekMail keeps the earliest created entries within the limit enabled for sending and turns off sending on the excess entries. Decide which addresses must remain able to send, then remove or consolidate the rest before the downgrade.
  • Trial: Choosing Nano during a mail-plan trial ends that trial immediately. During any trial, the dashboard remains the source of truth for current limits and safeguards.

The Drive Add-on is a separate subscription

The Drive Add-on (250 GB to 100 TB of pooled storage) is its own subscription, billed independently of your mail plan. Upgrading or downgrading your mail plan does not automatically affect your Drive Add-on, and vice versa.

A few practical implications:

  • Upgrading mail Starter to Pro does not change the Drive Add-on. The storage pool increases by the difference between the mail-plan allowances, on top of the add-on capacity.
  • Downgrading mail Pro to Starter does not cancel the Drive Add-on. The add-on capacity remains while the base mail-plan allowance changes.
  • Downgrading to Nano with a Drive Add-on is possible. Manage or cancel the add-on separately if you no longer need the extra capacity.

To resize, cancel, or reactivate the Drive Add-on independently, see Upgrading or Downgrading Storage and Canceling Drive Add-on.

White Label Lite and plan changes

The White Label Lite add-on is also a separate subscription. A mail-plan change does not cancel or reconfigure it:

  • Every mail tier: White Label Lite works with Nano, Starter, Pro, and Agency. Your brand settings remain independent of the mail-plan limits.
  • Mail-plan discount: Starter, Pro, and Agency accounts, including an active trial on one of those plans, receive 10% off White Label Lite.
  • Drive discount: An active White Label Lite subscription receives 10% off the Drive add-on.
  • Separate management: If you no longer need White Label Lite, manage that subscription separately from Billing. See Canceling White Label Lite.

To activate, configure, or cancel White Label Lite independently, see What is White Label Lite?.

What Gets Preserved on Downgrade

When you downgrade, TrekMail preserves your configuration so you don't lose setup work:

Feature On Downgrade
Mailbox forwarding Saved, but unavailable on Nano until a paid mail plan is active
Custom SMTP (BYO) Stays active (available on all plans)
Platform SMTP Disabled (paid plans only)
API tokens Remain, but scope-restricted by new plan
Catch-all (external) Disabled (Pro+ only), internal catch-all stays
Existing emails Retained; check storage and plan limits before relying on continued service
Existing Drive files Retained; check the pooled-storage allowance and add-on status
Drive Add-on subscription Continues as separate billing, not tied to the mail plan

Switching Between Payment Providers (Stripe and Crypto)

TrekMail supports card payments through Stripe and cryptocurrency payments through NOWPayments for eligible yearly mail plans. You cannot hold overlapping active mail-plan subscriptions.

From Card to Crypto

  1. Cancel the current Stripe subscription from Billing.
  2. Wait for its current billing period to end.
  3. Once the period expires and your account reverts to Nano, purchase a yearly crypto plan.

From Crypto to Card

  1. Let the current crypto coverage reach its end date.
  2. Once it ends, choose the required card plan in Plans.

[!IMPORTANT] You cannot purchase a crypto mail plan while an active Stripe mail plan exists, or the reverse. Finish the current billing period first to avoid a duplicate purchase.

Switching From Marketplace Billing (ClickBank or JVZoo) To TrekMail Stripe Billing

Marketplace subscriptions do not support in-place TrekMail plan mutations.

When you choose a new TrekMail plan:

  1. TrekMail starts the new Stripe subscription flow.
  2. TrekMail cancels the existing ClickBank or JVZoo rebill.
  3. If your bank requires card authentication (a verification popup or redirect), the marketplace rebill is not canceled until that step is complete.
  4. Once Stripe confirms the payment, TrekMail finishes the marketplace rebill cancellation and keeps the new recurring billing in Stripe.

This avoids double billing and avoids canceling the old provider before the new card payment is actually confirmed.
