What is TrekMail?

TrekMail is email hosting for teams, agencies, and businesses that manage more than one domain. It keeps the mailbox, where people read mail, separate from the route used to send a message. That gives an account owner a clear place to manage mailboxes, DNS, storage, and sending choices.

Who this is for

• Developers who want to choose a custom SMTP route and automate the account through scoped API or MCP access.

What you’ll achieve

• Host email for the number of domains, mailboxes, and storage capacity available on your plan.
• Use webmail or a standard IMAP mail app to read mail, while reviewing the sending option configured for each domain.
• Access email via a modern webmail interface or your favorite app (Outlook, Apple Mail).
• Store the files that travel with your email, such as invoices, contracts, and deliverables, in built-in TrekMail Drive.
• Monitor DNS health with queued checks, record-specific status, and alerts when the platform detects a problem.

How TrekMail works

1. The Mailbox Layer

You create mailboxes (e.g., you@yourdomain.com) just like any other provider. We handle the storage, spam filtering, and IMAP connections. You can read your mail in our webmail or connect any standard email client.

Storage: Your dashboard shows the storage available to the account and to each mailbox. Review that usage before creating a large migration or adding Drive files, so an important mailbox does not run out of space unexpectedly.

2. The Sending Layer

This is where TrekMail shines. You choose how your email leaves our servers:

• Managed TrekMail SMTP: When it is available for the domain and plan, TrekMail provides the sending route.
• Bring Your Own SMTP: You can connect an external sending provider when your workflow requires one. The dashboard shows the route currently selected for each domain and any plan requirements that apply.

Choosing an external provider does not remove the need for correct DNS records or careful sending practices. It also does not turn off the account's own limits automatically. Check the current domain and plan settings before you send a large campaign.

3. The File Storage Layer

TrekMail Drive is file storage that lives alongside your email. It is included with an active paid mail plan; Nano needs an active Drive Add-on or trial. There are two surfaces:

• Account Drive: company-level file storage in the dashboard, managed by the account owner. Shared folders are visible to every mailbox in the account.
• Webmail Drive: per-mailbox file storage inside webmail. Each mailbox owner gets private Drive space plus access to account-shared folders.

Storage is pooled: email and Drive files use the same account capacity. When Drive is available, webmail can offer a download link for a file that is too large to send as a normal attachment. The dashboard shows the storage and Drive options available to your account.

Common mistakes & quick fixes

• Symptom: "I can receive email but I can't send."
  • Likely Cause: You are on the Nano plan but haven't configured a custom SMTP provider yet.
  • Fix: Open Domains, choose the domain, then open SMTP and connect your own provider, or upgrade to a paid plan to use managed sending.
• Symptom: "My emails are going to spam."
  • Likely Cause: Missing DNS records (SPF/DKIM/DMARC).
  • Fix: Check the DNS & Health tab for your domain and ensure all traffic lights are green.
