You can connect almost any mailbox that offers IMAP and SMTP, including mail from a web host, cPanel account, office server, or smaller provider. Enter its server details yourself when there is no ready-made preset.
What you need
Ask the provider or mail administrator for:
- The IMAP server name, often something like
mail.yourdomain.comorimap.yourhost.com. - The SMTP server name for sending, often the same host or something like
smtp.yourhost.com. - The username, usually the full email address and sometimes only the part before
@. - The mailbox password. Independent hosts commonly use the normal mailbox password rather than an app password.
Add it in TrekMail
- In webmail, select your profile picture, then Settings → Connected accounts → Connect an account.
- Enter the email address and open Server settings.
- For incoming mail, enter the IMAP server and the port and encryption required by the provider. Common combinations are
993with SSL or143with TLS. - For outgoing mail, enter the SMTP server and its port and encryption. Common combinations are
465with SSL,587with TLS, or2525with TLS when the provider documents it. - If the username is not the full email address, change it. Enter the password, select Test connection, then save once it passes.
Encryption and certificates
TrekMail connects only over an encrypted connection. The mail server needs a current, publicly trusted certificate whose name matches the server name you enter. A self-signed, expired, or mismatched certificate cannot be bypassed. If your organization runs the server, ask its administrator to install a valid certificate and give you the matching host name.
If it will not connect
Check the server names for typos. If receiving works but sending fails, compare the SMTP host, port, encryption, and username with the provider's own mail-client setup page. Do not switch ports at random; use another one only when the provider documents that combination. The connection starts from TrekMail's servers, so changing Wi-Fi or mobile data on your device cannot fix a provider server setting. A server your organization runs must be reachable from the public internet. See Fixing connected account problems for more help.
