Moving to TrekMail (IMAP Migration)
Our migration tool copies your old emails to TrekMail without deleting them from your current provider. It runs in the background, so you can close your browser while it works.
How it works
- Source: You provide the IMAP credentials for your old account (Gmail, cPanel, Outlook, etc.).
- Destination: You select which TrekMail mailbox should receive the emails.
- Copy Process: We log in to your old account, read the folders, and copy every email message to TrekMail.
What is migrated?
- ✅ Emails: All messages in Inbox, Sent, Drafts, and custom folders.
- ✅ Folder Structure: We recreate your folders in TrekMail.
- ✅ Read/Unread Status: We try to preserve this where possible.
What is NOT migrated?
- ❌ Contacts & Calendars: IMAP only handles email. You must export/import these manually.
- ❌ Filters/Rules: You will need to recreate your forwarding rules in TrekMail.
- ❌ Original Account: We do NOT delete anything from your old provider.
Starting a Migration
- Go to Migration in the left sidebar.
- Click New Migration.
- Source Details: Enter the IMAP Host, Username, and Password of your old provider.
- Tip: If moving from Gmail, you need an App Password.
- Tip: If moving from cPanel, usually
mail.yourdomain.com.
- Destination: Select your TrekMail mailbox.
- Click Start Migration.
Best Practices
- Do not cancel your old hosting yet. Wait until the migration is 100% complete and verified.
- Switch MX records first. It's usually best to point your MX records to TrekMail before migrating, so new mail lands here. Then run the migration to catch up on the old mail.
