Connect an @outlook.com, @hotmail.com, @live.com, or Microsoft 365 address to TrekMail and use it beside your other mail. This setup uses Sign in with Microsoft, not a password or app-password field, so TrekMail never sees or stores your Microsoft password.
Why Microsoft is different
You approve the connection on Microsoft's website. Microsoft then gives TrekMail a revocable access token instead of your password. You can withdraw that access from your Microsoft account at any time.
Start on the TrekMail webmail host where Connected accounts is available for your mailbox and plan. Microsoft sign-in is not offered on a branded White Label host. For a Microsoft 365 work or school mailbox, your organization can also control whether IMAP and third-party access are allowed.
Connect the account
- In TrekMail webmail, select your profile picture, then Settings → Connected accounts.
- Select Connect an account and enter the Outlook, Hotmail, Live, or Microsoft 365 address.
- Select Continue with Microsoft.
- On Microsoft's sign-in page, sign in to the account you are connecting. Review the access request and select Accept only if the account and request are correct.
- Microsoft returns you to TrekMail, which tests and adds the account. You do not need to enter server settings or a password in TrekMail.
The account appears under Connected accounts. Replies and new mail from that address go through Microsoft's servers, so recipients see the real address and Microsoft keeps the sent copy in its Sent folder.
Work or school accounts
Personal Outlook.com and Hotmail accounts usually let you approve access yourself. For a Microsoft 365 work or school account, the organization's administrator may need to approve TrekMail and IMAP must be enabled for the mailbox. If Microsoft says approval is required, send that request to your IT administrator, then try again after approval.
Reconnecting later
Microsoft normally refreshes access in the background. If you change the Microsoft password, revoke access, or leave the account unused for a long time, it can show Reconnect needed. Open Settings → Connected accounts, choose the account, then select Reconnect with Microsoft. The account keeps its place, colour, and settings.
If it will not connect
Make sure you signed in to the right Microsoft account. If the browser was already signed in to another account, use Microsoft's account switcher. For a work or school address, a message that admin approval is needed means the organization has not allowed the connection yet. See Fixing connected account problems for other errors.
