Add Your Gmail Account to TrekMail

Connect Gmail once and its messages appear next to your TrekMail mail. You can read, reply, and send from your Gmail address in one place. This connection uses a Google app password, not your normal Google password.

1. Check 2-Step Verification

Google requires 2-Step Verification before it can offer an app password. If you already use it, continue to the next step. Otherwise, open Google security settings, find 2-Step Verification, and follow the prompts.

2-Step Verification does not guarantee that App passwords will be available. Google can disable it for work or school accounts, accounts that use security keys only, or accounts enrolled in Advanced Protection. If you cannot find App passwords, ask the Google Workspace administrator whether this connection is allowed.

2. Create an app password

1. Open Google App passwords and sign in.
2. Give the password a name you will recognize, such as TrekMail, then select Create.
3. Google shows a 16-character password in four groups, such as abcd efgh ijkl mnop. Copy it. You can paste it with or without spaces.

Google shows this password once. You can later delete it on the same page, which disconnects TrekMail without changing your main Google password.

3. Add it in TrekMail

1. In TrekMail webmail, select your profile picture, then Settings → Connected accounts.
2. Select Connect an account and enter your Gmail address. TrekMail fills in Google's server settings.
3. Paste the app password, not your normal Google password.
4. Select Test connection. When it passes, select Save.

Your Gmail appears in the sidebar under Connected accounts. Open it to read Gmail, or turn on All inboxes to combine it with your other mail.

Sending from Gmail

When you reply to Gmail or write a new message while viewing that inbox, TrekMail sends it through Google using the app password. Recipients see your Gmail address, and Google keeps the sent copy in its Sent folder.

If Gmail receives forwarded mail for a business address, such as brian@yourcompany.com, you can make replies show that business address. Open Settings → Sending addresses, select Add a From address, and link the approved business address to this Gmail inbox. If the test fails

First make sure you pasted the app password, not your normal Google login. Check that App passwords is still available. Google revokes app passwords after a main-password change, so create a new one if you recently changed it. If Google sends a security alert, check it from your own Google Account security page and confirm the account and request before taking action. Do not approve an unexpected alert just to make a connection work. See Fixing connected account problems if it still will not connect.
