TrekMail webmail is built to fit how you work. Whether you prefer a dark screen at night, read email in a language other than English, or want to fly through your inbox without touching the mouse, this guide covers all the settings available to you.

Opening Settings

Click the gear icon (⚙) in the top-right corner of webmail to open the Settings panel. Settings are organized into tabs: Preferences, Identities, Templates, Blocked Senders, Trusted Senders, and Security.

Theme: light and dark

You can choose how webmail looks regardless of what your operating system is set to.

To change the theme:

  1. Click the theme toggle icon (a sun/moon) in the webmail header — usually top-right next to your avatar.
  2. The interface switches immediately. Click again to switch back.

You can also toggle from Settings → Preferences → Appearance if you prefer.

First-visit behaviour: if you've never set a theme on this browser, webmail picks light or dark to match your operating system's prefers-color-scheme. After you've toggled once, your choice is remembered for this browser; the OS preference is no longer consulted until you clear browser data.

If you want webmail to follow your OS theme automatically on an ongoing basis (e.g. switch with macOS's day/night schedule), you'd need to manually toggle in webmail when your OS theme changes. There's no built-in "Auto" mode that re-checks the OS setting in real time.

Display language

TrekMail webmail is available in 13 languages. The full interface — menus, buttons, system messages, and labels — switches to the language you choose.

Available languages:

Language RTL?
English No
Spanish No
French No
German No
Portuguese No
Italian No
Dutch No
Russian No
Chinese (Simplified) No
Japanese No
Korean No
Arabic Yes
Hebrew Yes

To change the language:

  1. Go to SettingsPreferencesLanguage.
  2. Select your language from the dropdown — each shows the language name in its own script with a flag.
  3. The interface reloads in the selected language.

Your selection is stored per-mailbox — different mailboxes on the same account can each use a different language. The dashboard (where you manage domains, plans, billing) has its own separate language setting; changing webmail to French doesn't change the dashboard.

Right-to-left (RTL) languages: When Arabic or Hebrew is selected, the entire webmail layout flips direction — the sidebar moves to the right, text is right-aligned, and the reading order is reversed. This is applied automatically.

Transactional emails: outbound emails TrekMail sends to mailbox users (password reset, mailbox-invite) localise to the recipient's webmail language setting. If you've set the mailbox to Russian, the verification email arrives in Russian.

Compose preferences

To adjust compose settings:

  1. Go to SettingsPreferencesCompose

Options include:

  • Undo send delay: Choose how long you have to cancel a sent message — 5, 10, 20, or 30 seconds. Set to "Off" to disable undo send.
  • Default reply mode: Inline (reply below the message) or Pop-out (reply in a floating window)
  • Signature insertion: Always insert, new messages only, or never

Two-factor authentication (2FA)

Two-factor authentication adds a second step to your webmail login — a one-time code from an authenticator app on your phone. Even if someone knows your mailbox password, they cannot log in without the code.

To enable 2FA:

  1. Go to SettingsSecurityTwo-Factor Authentication
  2. Click Enable
  3. Open your authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Authy, 1Password, or similar)
  4. Scan the QR code shown on screen
  5. Enter the 6-digit code your app generates to confirm the setup
  6. Save your recovery codes — these are one-time codes you can use if you lose access to your phone. Store them somewhere safe (not in your email inbox).
  7. Click Done

From this point forward, every new login session will ask for a code from your authenticator app.

Important: If you lose your phone and do not have your recovery codes, you will not be able to log in. Contact TrekMail support and we can verify your identity and help restore access.

To disable 2FA:

  1. Go to SettingsSecurityTwo-Factor Authentication
  2. Click Disable
  3. Enter the current 6-digit code to confirm

For a full guide including recovery codes and troubleshooting, see the Two-Factor Authentication article.

Notification preferences

To configure notifications:

  1. Go to SettingsPreferencesNotifications

Options include:

  • New mail notifications: Show a browser notification when new mail arrives (requires browser permission)
  • Calendar reminders: Enable browser reminders for upcoming events (see also Using the Calendar)

Browser notifications must be explicitly allowed in your browser. When you enable them for the first time, your browser will prompt you to grant permission.
