When you share your TrekMail referral link, it helps to understand exactly what the person on the other end experiences — from the moment they click the link to the point where your referral reward is confirmed.
Step 1: They click your link
Your referral link looks like trekmail.net/r/your-code. When someone clicks it, two things happen:
- They land on the TrekMail homepage (or a dedicated landing page, depending on where the link goes)
- Their browser stores your referral code for up to 30 days
Note: Even if you run TrekMail under your own brand via White Label Lite, your referral link always uses
trekmail.net/r/your-code— referrals run at the TrekMail platform layer, not your tenant domain.
The 30-day window means they do not have to sign up immediately. If they bookmark the page and come back a week later to create an account, your referral is still credited — as long as they sign up within that 30-day window and use the same browser and device.
Note: If the person clears their cookies, uses a different browser, or waits longer than 30 days, the referral connection may be lost and your reward will not be credited.
Step 2: They create an account
The signup process is the same for referred users as for anyone else:
- They enter their email address and create a password (or sign up with Google, Facebook, Microsoft, or X)
- They verify their email address by clicking a confirmation link sent to them
- They complete the setup wizard — adding a domain, configuring DNS, and creating their first mailbox
There is no special "referred user" screen or badge. The experience is identical to a standard signup.
Step 3: They complete the qualifying action
A referral is counted as successful only when the referred user completes a qualifying action — not just when they sign up for a free account.
The qualifying action is typically activating a paid plan (Starter, Pro, or Agency) and completing their first payment. A free Nano account does not qualify.
This is intentional: the program is designed to reward genuine conversions, not just signups that never go anywhere.
Once the qualifying action is complete, your dashboard updates automatically. You do not need to do anything.
Step 4: Your reward is credited
After the qualifying action is confirmed, TrekMail credits your account with one free month. This appears in your billing dashboard and is applied to your next payment cycle.
If this referral brings your total successful referrals to 10, your account is also upgraded to the 10% lifetime discount, which is applied automatically to all future billing.
You will receive an email notification when a referral reward is credited.
What the referred user gets
Referred users do not receive a special discount or bonus just for signing up through your link. The referral program rewards the person doing the referring, not the person being referred. This is by design — it keeps the incentive structure simple and avoids creating confusion about pricing.
Tracking referred users
In your Referrals dashboard, you can see:
- How many people have clicked your link
- How many have signed up (pending)
- How many have completed the qualifying action (successful)
- Your total earned rewards and milestone progress
The list does not show the names or email addresses of the people who used your link — only aggregate counts and status.
Common questions about referred user experience
What if they already have a TrekMail account? If the person who clicked your link already has a TrekMail account and is logged in when they click it, the referral is not credited. Referrals only apply to brand-new signups.
What if they sign up on mobile but upgrade on desktop? As long as both actions happen in the same browser session and within 30 days, the referral is tracked correctly. If they switch devices or browsers, the referral may be lost.
Can I refer myself or someone in my household? Self-referrals and household referrals are not eligible. TrekMail monitors for this and reserves the right to remove rewards that appear to exploit the program. See the referral program overview for full terms.
