Your TrekMail account password is the one you use to sign in to the dashboard at trekmail.net. It is separate from your mailbox passwords — the ones that protect your email inboxes. Changing one does not affect the other.
You should update your account password if you suspect it has been compromised, if you are due for a regular security rotation, or if someone who previously had access to your account should no longer have it.
How to change your password
- Log in to the TrekMail dashboard
- Click your avatar or name in the top-right corner and go to Settings
- Under Security, find the Change Password section
- Enter your Current Password
- Enter your New Password and confirm it by typing it again
- Click Update Password
Your new password takes effect immediately. Any other active sessions — for example, a browser tab open on another device — will be signed out automatically for security.
Password requirements
TrekMail enforces a minimum password strength to keep your account secure:
- At least 12 characters long
- A mix of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols is strongly recommended
- Cannot be a commonly used password (such as "password123" or "qwerty")
The strength indicator in the password field gives you real-time feedback as you type. Aim for at least "Strong" before saving.
Tip: A password manager (1Password, Bitwarden, Dashlane, etc.) can generate and store a strong random password for you so you never have to remember it. This is the most practical way to use truly secure passwords across all your accounts.
What if I forgot my current password?
If you are already logged out and cannot get in:
- Go to the TrekMail sign-in page at trekmail.net
- Click Forgot Password? below the login form
- Enter the email address associated with your account
- Check your inbox for a password reset link — it arrives within a few minutes
- Click the link in the email and follow the prompts to set a new password
Reset links expire after 1 hour for security. If yours expires before you use it, request a new one by repeating the steps above.
Note: If you signed up with Google, Facebook, Microsoft, or X (Twitter) and never set a password, you cannot use the Forgot Password flow — there is no password to reset. Log in using the same social provider you used to sign up. You can add a password in Settings → Security once you are logged in.
Social login and password
If your account is linked to a social provider (Google, Facebook, etc.), you have the option to also set an email-and-password login from Settings → Security → Set Password. This gives you a backup way to log in even if your social provider is unavailable.
Setting a password on a social login account does not remove the social login — both work independently.
This is different from your mailbox password
A common source of confusion: your TrekMail account password (dashboard login) and your mailbox password (email login) are two entirely separate credentials.
| Password type | Used for | Where to change |
|---|---|---|
| Account password | trekmail.net dashboard | Settings → Security |
| Mailbox password | Webmail, Outlook, iPhone, etc. | Mailboxes → Change Password |
Changing your account password does not change or affect any of your mailbox passwords. If you need to change a mailbox password, see the admin mailbox password guide or the self-service guide.
