Connect Drive on Android with DAVx⁵

DAVx⁵ is a free, open-source WebDAV client for Android. Once a WebDAV mount is added, your TrekMail Drive appears as a storage location in file-manager apps that support Android's Storage Access Framework.

The same three values can also be used in Android file managers that offer a WebDAV connection. Their menus and supported features vary, so use the client’s own setup instructions if its fields are named differently.

If you haven't generated a device password yet, do that first: see Sync devices.

Before you start

You need a device password. Sync apps get their own one-time password, separate from your dashboard login.

1. Open Sync devices in your TrekMail dashboard.
2. Click + Add new device.
3. Name it (e.g. Pixel, DAVx⁵).
4. Leave View files and Edit files checked if you need to upload or move files. For download-only access, select View files only.
5. Click Generate password and copy the password (dsync_...).

Tip: paste the password into your password manager on your phone before continuing. Typing a long random string on a touch keyboard is error-prone.

Install DAVx⁵

DAVx⁵ is available in two places:

• F-Droid (free): F-Droid listing, open-source, no cost.
• Google Play (paid, supports the developer): Play Store listing.

Either works; same code, same features. F-Droid is the official open-source channel; the Play version is a paid copy that helps fund development.

Add the WebDAV mount

DAVx⁵ keeps WebDAV file storage in its own section. The main DAVx⁵ screen is for calendar and contact sync; your Drive mount lives under Tools.

1. Open DAVx⁵.
2. Tap the navigation drawer (the ☰ menu icon, top-left).
3. Pick Tools → WebDAV mounts.
4. Tap the + floating action button (bottom-right).
5. On the Add WebDAV mount screen, fill in:
   • Display name: something memorable, e.g. TrekMail Drive.
   • WebDAV URL: paste the Drive server URL from the Sync devices page and keep the trailing slash.
   • Username (optional): paste the username displayed on that page.
   • Password (optional): the device password (dsync_...).
6. Tap Add mount (or Mount on older versions).

DAVx⁵ verifies the connection and registers the mount as an Android storage provider.

Browse Drive from a file manager

DAVx⁵ itself does not have a file-browser UI. It exposes Drive through Android's Storage Access Framework, so compatible file-manager apps can access it:

1. Open your file manager (e.g. Files by Google).
2. Tap the menu (☰) or Browse.
3. Look for the display name you chose (e.g. TrekMail Drive) under storage locations. On Files by Google it lives under Browse → Other storage.
4. Tap to open. Your Drive folders and files appear.

You can now:

• Tap a file to open it in the default app.
• Long-press → Move/Copy to move between Drive and local storage.
• Long-press → Share to upload from another app to Drive.
• Upload from camera / share sheet: pick TrekMail Drive as the destination from an app that supports Android storage locations.

Use the file manager for browsing, opening, and uploading a new file. This WebDAV endpoint does not support replacing an existing Drive file in place. For an edited file, save a new copy and upload it, or replace the file in the TrekMail Drive interface.

Battery and data usage

DAVx⁵ normally accesses files when the file-manager app asks for them:

• It does not download all files automatically; it fetches them when an app opens or copies them.
• Android and individual file managers decide when background work is allowed.
• Keep the file-manager app open for a large upload and confirm that it completed before leaving it.

Troubleshooting

• "Authentication failed": use the device password (dsync_...), not your dashboard password. Generate a new device password if it still fails.
• "Couldn't find any resources at this address": check the copied URL carefully, including https:// and the trailing slash.
• Drive does not appear in a file manager: check that the app supports Android storage providers and try its current version or another WebDAV-compatible file manager.
• Uploads cancel midway: keep the file-manager app open for large uploads, then retry the file.
• 507 Insufficient Storage: your Drive pool is full. Empty the trash or resize your add-on.
