Thunderbird is a strong fit for TrekMail users who want a single desktop app for email, calendar, and contacts. The CalDAV/CardDAV side is handled by an add-on called TbSync plus its Provider for CalDAV & CardDAV. Both are free and maintained.
Who this is for
You already use (or are willing to use) Thunderbird as your email client and you want your TrekMail calendar to appear in Thunderbird's built-in calendar — and your TrekMail address book in Thunderbird's contacts — both with two-way sync.
What you get
- TrekMail calendars in Thunderbird's calendar pane.
- TrekMail contacts in Thunderbird's address book.
- Two-way sync — changes in either place propagate within the sync interval you set.
Step 1 — Install the add-ons
- Open Thunderbird.
- Go to Tools → Add-ons and Themes → Extensions.
- Search for TbSync and install it. Restart Thunderbird if prompted.
- In the same place, search for and install Provider for CalDAV & CardDAV.
You should now see a TbSync entry in Tools (or in the new Thunderbird, the unified menu).
Step 2 — Add your TrekMail account in TbSync
- Open Tools → TbSync → Account actions → Add new account → CalDAV & CardDAV.
- Choose Manual configuration and click Next.
- Fill in:
- Account name: anything, e.g.
TrekMail - User name: your full TrekMail email address
- Password: your mailbox password
- CalDAV server:
https://trekmail.net/dav/ - CardDAV server:
https://trekmail.net/dav/
- Account name: anything, e.g.
- Click Next to create the account.
Step 3 — Enable sync and select calendars/contacts
- In the TbSync window, click the new account on the left.
- Tick the Enabled and ready checkbox.
- Wait a few seconds for discovery to find your calendars and address books.
- Tick the ones you want to sync.
- Click Synchronize this account to do the first sync.
Your calendars now appear in Thunderbird's calendar (open with the calendar tab icon, or Ctrl+Shift+C). Your contacts appear in Address Book (Ctrl+Shift+B).
Sync interval
TbSync's default interval is automatic on change + every 30 minutes. Adjust under Tools → TbSync → (your account) → Synchronization period.
Common problems
Discovery times out. TbSync may not always auto-discover the right paths. Make sure the server URLs are exactly https://trekmail.net/dav/ (trailing slash matters).
"Authentication failed." Use your mailbox password, not your TrekMail dashboard password.
Sync ran but the address book is empty. Some TbSync versions need a second sync after enabling the address book. Click Synchronize this account again.
Read-only calendar. If TbSync shows your calendar as read-only, open Tools → TbSync → (your account) → CalDAV and ensure write permission is enabled. If it stays read-only after that, contact support and include the TbSync log.
